Privacy Policy
This privacy policy is for the Clear Sky Stratos Chrome Extension (the “Extension”), published by Clear Sky Solutions (“Clear Sky”, “we”, “us”). It describes the information the Extension handles, why, and who can receive it. Effective October 8, 2026.
This page is the privacy policy for the Extension only. Our marketing website is covered by a separate policy at clearskysolutions.com/privacy.
The single purpose of the Extension
The Extension lets a person who already has a Clear Sky Stratos account record, edit, and play back automated user-interface tests in Chrome, and save those tests to that person’s Clear Sky organization.
That is its only purpose. It is a test-automation tool for software teams. It is not an advertising product, and it does not build a browsing profile.
Information the Extension handles
Account information
When you sign in, the Extension sends your email address and password to Google Firebase Authentication (identitytoolkit.googleapis.com and securetoken.googleapis.com) so Google can check the account. The Extension does not store your password. It keeps a Firebase ID token so it can call Clear Sky APIs as you.
After a successful sign-in, the Extension stores this profile in chrome.storage.local on your device: user id, user name, first name, last name, time zone, organization id, organization name, permissions, and user group. Signing out removes that profile from extension storage.
Tests you record
While you are recording or playing back a test, the Extension reads the page you attached and stores the steps you create. That can include:
- the page URL and title
- clicks, hovers, key presses, and the other actions you perform
- text you type into fields, including the value of a password field. The step title in the panel shows asterisks. The value itself is kept so playback can type it again, and it is uploaded if you save the scenario
- element selectors and the visible text, labels, and attributes needed to find that element later
- a screenshot of the visible tab. Screenshot capture is on by default and can be turned off in the Extension settings
- an HTML copy of the page, with the Extension’s own interface removed. HTML capture is on by default and can be turned off in the Extension settings
- the screen and viewport size, so playback can use the same layout
- frames inside the page, including blank frames a test navigates through
If the page you choose to test shows personal, financial, health, or other sensitive information, that information can appear in a screenshot, in the HTML copy, or in a value you typed. Record only data your team is allowed to store in the Clear Sky project.
Assertions
When you add or edit an assertion, the Extension can read the following from the tab under test, and only for that assertion:
- cookies (name, domain, and value)
- localStorage and sessionStorage keys and values
- a limited sample of network requests the page made: URL, method, status, headers, and a short excerpt of the response body
- the page URL and title
The content script is present on pages so recording and playback can run on the application you are testing, including applications on origins Clear Sky does not operate. A click can also keep a short description of the current view inside the Extension, on the device, so the next recorded step can be tied to that view. That description is not sent to Clear Sky on its own.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not show ads, and we do not use this information for advertising, credit, or lending.
- The Extension does not include an analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
- The Extension does not keep a history of websites you visit outside a test you record.
- The Extension does not ask for your geolocation.
- The Extension does not read your email, contacts, or personal messages as a feature.
Chrome permissions and why they are used
Chrome asks for these permissions because the Extension needs them for the single purpose above. They are not used to watch browsing you are not testing.
- sidePanel — the Extension panel.
- storage — settings and the test you are editing, on your device.
- contextMenus — open the Extension from the right-click menu.
- system.display — screen size for the recorded viewport.
- scripting, tabs, activeTab, and windows — find the tab and window under test, run the test, and capture a screenshot of that tab.
- webNavigation — follow page loads during record and playback.
- debugger — attach the Chrome debugger to the tab you are recording or playing back. Record and playback drive the page through that debugger session. The debugger is released when the session ends. It is not attached in order to inspect tabs you are not testing.
- Access to the sites you test, including a content script on pages and frames — a test can target any web application your team uses. Those addresses are not known in advance, so the Extension cannot be limited to one fixed site.
How we use information
We use the information only to:
- sign you in and show your organization and projects
- record, edit, play back, and save the tests you create
- store the screenshots and HTML that belong to those tests
- run the assertions you add
- keep your Extension settings
We do not use it to advertise, to build a marketing profile, or for a purpose other than this test automation.
When information leaves your browser
Information is sent off the device only in these cases:
- Sign-in. Your email and password go to Google Firebase Authentication. The Extension does not store the password.
- API calls. The Firebase ID token, and the account, project, and test data that call needs, go to the Clear Sky Stratos service for the organization you signed in to.
- Saving a scenario. The steps, selectors, typed values (including a password value you recorded), URLs, HTML copies, and the other test data in that scenario are uploaded to that Clear Sky project.
- Screenshots. When a saved step includes a screenshot, the image is uploaded to Google Cloud Storage through a short-lived signed URL issued for that project.
- Other Clear Sky actions you take in the Extension, such as loading a test suite, saving a scenario variable, or reading project settings. Those calls use the same Clear Sky service.
Until you save, a draft test stays in extension storage on the device. Settings such as theme and whether screenshots are captured stay in chrome.storage.sync on the device. Some page-catalog screenshots stay in IndexedDB in the browser. The position of the on-page recording indicator is stored in that page’s localStorage.
Who can receive information
- Clear Sky Solutions operates Stratos and stores the tests you save for your organization.
- People in your Clear Sky organization who already have access to that project can open tests you upload.
- Google processes sign-in (Firebase Authentication) and stores screenshot files (Cloud Storage) so the Extension can provide this feature.
- We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to investigate abuse and protect the security of the service.
- If Clear Sky is part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, project data may transfer with that business, still for this same purpose.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Use of user data that the Extension receives from Chrome APIs and from pages you test follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements:
- Use is limited to providing and improving the single purpose described on this page.
- Data is transferred only to provide that purpose, at your direction when you save or share a test, for security, to comply with law, or as part of a merger as described above.
- Data is not used or transferred for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending.
- Humans do not read this data except with your consent (including teammates who can open the project), for security, to comply with law, or in aggregated form that does not identify you.
How long we keep information
- On the device: until you delete the draft, sign out (which removes the cached profile), clear the Extension’s site data, or remove the Extension. Removing the Extension deletes its local storage. It does not delete tests already uploaded.
- In Clear Sky: a saved scenario, its HTML copy, and its screenshots remain in the project until someone who is allowed to delete them does so.
- The sign-in token is refreshed while you stay signed in and is discarded when you sign out.
Your choices
- Do not start recording on a page you do not want stored in a test.
- Turn screenshot capture and HTML capture off in the Extension settings. Both are on unless you turn them off.
- Prefer test accounts and scenario variables over production passwords. A password typed while recording is stored in that step.
- Sign out to remove the cached profile from the Extension.
- Remove the Extension to delete local extension data.
- Delete an uploaded test in Stratos Studio. If you need help reaching an administrator for your organization, email privacy@clearskytesting.com.
- You may ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and you may object to or restrict certain processing, by emailing privacy@clearskytesting.com. We may need to confirm that you hold the account. We may keep information the law requires us to keep.
Security
The Extension talks to Clear Sky over HTTPS. API calls send the Firebase token in the Authorization header and do not attach the browser’s cookie jar, so a session on a website cannot replace the account you signed into inside the Extension. Screenshot uploads use a signed URL that is valid only for that upload. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
Children
The Extension is for software-testing teams. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We will post changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially expands what the Extension collects or shares, this page will be updated so that it matches the Extension offered in the Chrome Web Store.
