Workflow

A failing test is not the end of the story — someone has to do something about it. The Workflow Report is where that something is tracked: the work items raised against the project.

Where the items come from

Work items are not typed in by hand. They are raised by runs — a test plan with Create Defect on Run turned on opens a defect when a test fails, and the defect appears here.

Which means an empty Workflow Report — "This project has no work items." — says one of two things, and it is worth knowing which:

  • nothing has failed, or
  • nothing is configured to raise a defect when it does.

If your runs are red and this screen is empty, look at the Defects tab of the plan.

Reading the report

Show Full Test Suite PathOff, an item names its test. On, it names the whole path down the suite tree to that test. Turn it on in a project with deep, similarly-named suites, where Login alone does not tell you which login.
RefreshRe-reads the list. Items appear as runs finish, not as you watch.

Reaching it from a suite

The report is in the project's Reports menu, and also on the menu of any suite in the catalog, as Workflow report. Opening it from a suite is the same report, asked a narrower question: what work is outstanding in this part of the tree?
